BE YOUR OWN BOSS
- BE YOUR OWN BOSS is a project that aims to develop a European-wide accredited training framework for persons who wish to start up their own business. There is a specific focus on disadvantaged groups: disabled, women, young people, ethnic minorities and people residing in rural areas. The framework will be tested in all of the seven partner countries by the partners on one or more of the target disadvantaged groups involving at least 150 potential entrepreneurs. The training materials will be implemented in regional training organisations, and an element of ‘Train the Trainer’ will be integrated.

DRIVE (Directing Research into Viable Enterprises)
- DRIVE is a two year programme, with partners from South West Ireland, Stuttgart, Germany and South East Ireland. The overall aim of DRIVE is to promote and support greater linkages, interaction and productivity between research communities, support agencies and industry. Led by the South West Regional Authority in Ireland, the timing of this project is critical as the need to transfer new and existing knowledge, technology and processes into higher value-added commercial activities is essential to regional sustainability and competitiveness. This is especially relevant as we move into a new period of investment and funding under the Structural Funds 2007 – 2013.

European Territorial Cooperation (INTERREG IV) 2007-13
- This is the new Structural Funds (ERDF) programme for cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation within the EU increasingly called INTERREG IV. The purpose of this objective, inspired by the experience of the INTERREG Community Initiative, is to strengthen cooperation at three levels: cross-border cooperation through joint programmes (74% of fund = €5.6b); cooperation within transnational zones (21%= €1.8b); and networks for cooperation and exchange of experience throughout the EU (5% = €0.4b). The idea is to encourage balanced, harmonious and sustainable development throughout the European area. The West Midlands is eligible under the latter two strands. The Transnational strand is worth €1.8b and €355m of this is proposed for the North West Europe programme which WM partners are eligible to bid for. The Interregional strand is worth ERDF €321m EU wide. The intervention rate will be 50% for NWE and 50% to 75% for WM partners in the interregional strand depending on final international agreement.
